The Areca Technology Corporation designs and manufactures storage products for high performance computing. The company’s storage products include RAID controllers, related software and device drivers.
We are extremely excited to announce that the Areca Corporation has contributed two of its high performance RAID products!
RAID or Redundant Array of Independent Disks, is one way of adding fault tolerance to a storage system. Spinning hard disks are subject to wear and eventually fail. By combining disks in a RAID, it is possible to maintain system functionality even when one or more disks have failed. Usually the failed disks are detected by the RAID mechanism and can be replaced, reducing system downtime and data loss.
This type of functionality is especially important in settings where replacement components are scarce and where a wide range of environmental factors (i.e. heat, dust) contribute to computer failures.
We would like to thank the Areca Technology Corporation for this immensely important contribution to the Digital Library Initiative! We look forward to reporting how we use these devices in the future. Stay tuned!
