Alyssa Cabrera (formerly Bechtold) is now the Director of the Injury Prevention Program at the Boston Public Health Commission. She was a former injury surveillance intern in Nzega, Tanzania in the summer of 2013, and credits her experience collecting data on injuries for her current career path.
Boston couldn’t be more different than Nzega, but surprisingly the injury trends are similar. Pedestrian/cycling injuries are a great concern there, along with an increase in elder falls, and poisonings. It’s a small program in Boston, but Alyssa learned the importance of working in this field firsthand on the ground in Tanzania.
Congratulations Alyssa!
